Hawaiʻi GET and TAT returns, filed on time every period
General excise tax applies to almost every Hawaiʻi business, and vacation rentals owe transient accommodations tax too. We prepare and file both, from your books, as part of one fixed monthly fee.
When Hawaiʻi GET and TAT returns are due
Periodic GET returns (Form G-45) and TAT returns are due by the 20th day of the month after each filing period. How often you file depends on how much tax you owe in a year:
| Annual tax liability | You may file | Periodic return due |
|---|---|---|
| More than $4,000 | Monthly | 20th of the following month |
| $4,000 or less | Quarterly | 20th of the month after the quarter |
| $2,000 or less | Semiannually | 20th of the month after the half-year |
An annual GET reconciliation return (Form G-49), and an annual TAT return, are due by the 20th day of the fourth month after your tax year ends: April 20 for a calendar year.

Frequently asked questions
When are Hawaiʻi GET returns due?
Periodic general excise tax returns (Form G-45) are due by the 20th day of the month after the filing period. Businesses with more than $4,000 of GET a year file monthly; $4,000 or less can file quarterly, and $2,000 or less can file semiannually. The annual reconciliation (Form G-49) is due by the 20th day of the fourth month after the tax year ends, which is April 20 for a calendar year.
Do vacation rentals have to file TAT as well as GET?
Generally, yes. Rental income from transient accommodations is subject to both the general excise tax and the state transient accommodations tax, which follow the same filing schedule. We prepare and file both as part of the monthly package.
Is GET filing included in the monthly fee?
Yes. GET and TAT returns are part of the Small Business Fixed-Fee Package, typically $350 to $1,500 a month.
I'm behind on GET filings. Can you help?
Yes. We catch up the books and the missed returns first, at a fixed price quoted in advance, then keep you current each period.
